On one end of the spectrum we have aggression and on the other we have lust and that is basically what drives man. So pure anger, rage, or the will to survive is probably the most powerful and is second, if not mirrored, by the urge to have sex or become romantically involved. A humanist would probably tell you love is the most powerful positive emotion, and the anger of not being loved in return is the most negative. Preferring a cognitive-psychoanalytic model, I’d say the inability to satisfy our needs all the time as well as that satisfaction that we can get are the strongest. I suppose fulfilling all of our needs in our society would be considered self-actualization which is really humanistic school of thought, who knew!
