have you ever had a song that seemed to be talking...
I would recommend all of my followers to check out the band Explosions in the Sky. Although they are an instrumental rock band, I think they speak for everyone. We can all relate to music, the universal language. It puts us all in sync, even if just for a moment. Definitely worth it. If you need advice, click here :)

Anonymous asked: I've know this kid my whole life. I've had a crush on him since second grade. We're best friends. I wanna tell him I like him, a lot, but I'm afraid he won't, and I'll make our relationship weird. He has a girlfriend, but he's telling me that he doesn't feel anything for her anymore. Help !

biggest turn on? biggest turn off? even not in...
My biggest “turn on” would have to be someone that is driven. My biggest “turn off” is someone that is lazy. I don’t have many requirements for people that I associate with, but I really value the drive to do great things. If you need advice, click here :)

Anonymous asked: This boy I like is around 3 years older than I am. We've kissed before, but he doesn't want a relationship. I've tried to get over him, but every time I speak to him, he just reels me back in. Should I ignore him? Or should I keep talking to him, and wait for him to like me?

Addiction.
Addictions can be tricky and at the end of the day it’s just a matter of definition. No one “has” an addiction like something we can see. It’s a set of behaviors that has to fall inside of a model that we create. 1. It is a deviant from the population. 2. The behavior is maladaptive. 3. It causes stress for the patient. People can be addicted to watching TV, religion,...

You should never try to suppress feelings. You may realize that the relationship isn’t appropriate and try for someone else, but if your feelings are too strong you should be honest and open with her about how you feel. If you need advice, click here :)

If you yourself have cheated on your relationship...
This is a problem because the person that cheated is accepting that they deserve to be treated like shit. It is understandable feel angry if the person cheated on you, but once you forgive that person you need to stick to your word. Also, if the person that cheated promises not to again, they should stick to theirs. Forgiveness doesn’t mean making the other person feel bad. The goal is to be...

I keep having dreams about cutting my arms open......
Dream interpretation doesn’t hold much scientific validity. It’s not like people think where dreams have common symbols or give us some deep meaning to be interpreted by a psychoanalysis. The current psychological view on dreams is that they’re only as important as you value them. They allow our minds to creatively solve problems, imagine things that can’t happen in...

Do you feel that people take you seriously, or do...
The people I see day-to-day mostly know that I sometimes make fun of my blog. How egotistical would it be for me to take my words so seriously? Honestly, I’m not a mental health God yet so most of the time what I say should be taken with a grain of salt. I like to think that what I write helps some people though, at least those that feel like no one will listen to them. If you need...

do you know what bmi is considered "anorexic"
Anorexia nervosa isn’t diagnosed based on BMI. That being said, most people diagnosed are underweight which is about 18.5 or less. Keep in mind that BMI charts are very tricky, some consider more factors than others. A simple BMI only required height, age, and weight. Some take into consideration ethnicity, location, family history, ect. Anorexia nervosa is a multifaceted disorder that can...

What is your view on introversion? Do you think...
To explain nurture vs nurture, I always use the alcoholism example. There is a strong correlation between genetics and alcoholism, but if there is no alcohol in the environment, the individual can never possibly grow up to be an alcoholic. As with introversion, nature and nurture must come together to form this trait. I think personality is flexible, in some instances we are all introverted and in...

Saying “we need to talk” is a good way to get the message across of severity, importance, and seriousness which I’m sure relate to how you feel. It’s best to confront these things head on and be as clear and expressive as you can be with him. Don’t go overboard and scare him away, but you have to let him know how you feel. So you're saying there's something wrong with me...
The only evidence I have that it’s bad for you is that it’s a deviance from the norm. I don’t know if not feeling those emotions are maladaptive for you or if they’re personally distressing. If so, then it’s considered a mental illness. Chronic feelings of sadness, anxiety, and guilt relate to some of Eriksons stages that may not have been worked out. Specifically,...

ITS ALL FEAR AND LOVE.
Not fear…aggression! Anger! Jealousy! Rage! What do you think is the strongest human emotion?
On one end of the spectrum we have aggression and on the other we have lust and that is basically what drives man. So pure anger, rage, or the will to survive is probably the most powerful and is second, if not mirrored, by the urge to have sex or become romantically involved. A humanist would probably tell you love is the most powerful positive emotion, and the anger of not being loved in return...

why do you tell everyone that they need therapy?
Because if I gave them advice on things that are signs of mental disorders, I would be responsible for their health and I don’t have the qualifications. Above all else, it could lead to legal problems and most mental struggles could be solved with therapy. If you need advice, click here :)

What's your MBTI type?
The MBTI “type” is a dated and crude method of assessing personality that lacks validity testing and empirical support and is generally not used by therapists, espcially similar Jungian tests. When assessing personality, I prefer the NEO-PI-R. With that test, my therapist rated me as normal in most traits but lacking a certain degree of empathy when compared to most people. I have a...

How do you get rid of jealousy?
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is the best way to go. Basically, learning new behaviors and ways of thinking that cannot also exist with your current tendencies. A big part of therapy would be identifying the root of the problem and resolving those issues. Therapy isn’t like the movies where a psychotherapist will retrieve some repressed memory and then there’s a major depressive episode...

Don’t be in a hurry to rush things, try to see everything in a refreshing break from the stressful everyday routine. Don’t take things too seriously, keep it on a casual level. I mean, you’re not looking for a husband for Christ sake. Just someone to take you to the sock hop, or maybe to get a soda pop. Start off with those intentions and you won’t get let down if things...

I’m glad you feel such intense positive emotions, but you have to let logic have its ruling as well. Don’t rush anything no matter how badly you may want to. The slower you take things, the longer the relationship will last and getting to know each other better is a great thing. The relationship has to be balanced so always keep up good communication to make sure the two of you are on...

What can you say about people who always gets...
Usually it stems from faulty learning, not extreme insecurities like most pop-psychologists would agree. Most people pick up this trait from one or more of their parents. That is why people can be jealous and still have some form of confidence, some are even proud of that trait because they feel it at least gives them an identity. But it really doesn’t, what it gives them is identity...

At the root of it all, you know what it is about him that makes you not compelled to him. Maybe if you don’t want to admit whatever that is to yourself, your friends may give you some insight. Often, our friends know our taste when our self-acceptance blocks away some ideas. Maybe you’re still not over your ex but won’t admit it to yourself. Maybe you think he’s a loser for...

No one likes anyone that doesn’t have confidence. Try not to put yourself down as much and focus on the positives of your personality. Love should always be balanced. My advice is that you should tell him how you want the relationship to, which sounds to be more casual than serious and committed. Depending on your age, your view may be more healthy than what the person you’re with wants. Always strive to keep the relationship healthy and balanced. If you need advice, click here :)

I don’t know how old you are, but you may not always feel this way. In college, you will have classes with people that care about the same things that you do. And there will be A LOT of people that are just like you, because by telling everyone that they’re special and different, American education institutions are really just isolating us. What we need to realize is how we really are...

Some people may not be comfortable with commitment, and it’s not your job to force him to be okay with those things. All you can do is either decide to wait for him to get over his hang ups, try to ease the process, or go for someone more readily available. He may never get over his issues, but you have to let him know how you feel and what you want before you decide which course to take. ...

How do you feel about couples saying I love you...
Saying “I love you” can be a huge step for some people, and a very common thing for others. Of course, there are many variations on those which we love; we love sisters, teachers, parents, and those that we date all very differently. Usually it’s when people violate those relationships that trust issues evolve; when we feel used for our love, or when our love isn’t...

You should let her know how you feel, but also keep your emotions in check. You don’t want to “tell her off” or try to upset her through insults, that’ll just make matters worse.
